What happens, where

A ring eclipse rather than a total one: the Moon crosses the Sun a little too far from Earth to cover it completely, so a bright ring stays visible around it. The ring makes landfall on the Argentine coast in the afternoon, crosses the South Atlantic, and reaches the Gulf of Guinea coast of West Africa right at sunset, where the ring hangs just above the horizon. Chile and most of South America, plus much of western Africa, see a strong partial eclipse.

Cities at the path edge are genuinely borderline; shadow-edge predictions differ by a few kilometres between models. If you're near the edge, travel toward the centre of the path.
