The longest totality on land this century: over six minutes of darkness near Luxor, Egypt. The Moon’s shadow crosses the Strait of Gibraltar, runs along the North African coast, then continues over Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Horn of Africa near local midday, with the Sun high in the sky.

Monday, August 2, 2027. Greatest eclipse is at about 10:07 UTC, over Egypt. Local start, totality and end times for each city are in the table above; times in southern Spain and Morocco fall in the late morning.
Where will the eclipse be total?
The path of totality crosses the far south of Spain and Gibraltar, northern Morocco, the Algerian coast, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Outside that narrow path, observers across Europe, Africa and the Middle East see a partial eclipse.
How long will totality last?
Up to 6 minutes 23 seconds near Luxor, Egypt, according to NASA’s eclipse predictions. Space Time’s own calculation for Luxor’s city reference point gives 6m 25s; small differences between models are normal. In Spain, totality lasts about 4m 41s at Tarifa and 2m 54s in Cádiz by the same calculation.
Can I see totality from Madrid or Seville?
No. Madrid sees about 86% of the Sun covered and Seville about 98%. Even a 98% partial eclipse stays bright, and the sky does not go dark. To see totality from Spain, travel to the Strait of Gibraltar coast, such as Tarifa, Algeciras or Cádiz, or cross to Ceuta or northern Morocco.
Is it safe to look at the eclipse?
Only during totality, when the Sun is completely covered, can you look without protection. Use certified solar eclipse glasses for every partial phase, and use proper front-mounted solar filters on cameras, binoculars and telescopes.
